Post 7: Ice Breaker to High Performance Leadership: HPL

One path done and you haven't addressed doing an HPL. Ah, but I have; I just haven't said anything about my guidance committee, you know, the three members needed to provide advice and discuss best practices.  My HPL is to help the area directors in my division train the clubs on how to connect projects to help their members grow - and hopefully their membership.

By working together we can build a better division team.

Post 5: Ice Breaker to High Performance Leadership: Level 2

Level 2 Mandatory is Managing Your Time, the difficult part of this project is not the project itself but determining the speech you plan to give as you track your time management. Before you decide anything, read the curriculum to determine what you need to do.
Different thoughts are:

  1. Have fun with this one and laugh at yourself.
  2. Create a hypothetical outcome to the path completion had you not started with the end in mind and planned your path.
  3. Create a fable or fairytale that demonstrates what your time management looked like
  4. others?

Ice Breaker to High Performance Leadership: Level 3

Level 3 consists of planning and implementing a small scale project with or without a team. I am going plan a training session to help introduce the level 4 and 5 team on how they can complete their own projects while helping with mine (look for more on that in next week's posts)

I will use Creating Effective Visual Aids and Using Presentation Software as we will need the Visual Aids for the open house and membership drive, and the presentation will be used at the open house to better inform guests on how Toastmasters can help them.

Next post... You guessed it - Level 2

Ice Breaker to High Performance Leadership: Level 4

Yesterday we discussed start with the end in mind and looked at the Level 5 mandatory and an elective projects of Leadership Development. Now let's take a look at Level 4. I'm glad I looked, as it appears similar to Level 5, but I am breaking them into two different projects: the Level 5 event will be the open house and the Level 4 will be the membership drive leading up to the open house.

If we are going to have a public relations event, we should have a public relations strategy, therefore, that is our elective.

Level 4 - planned.

Check back tomorrow for Level 3 project guidance.

Post 2: Ice Breaker to HPL: Start With the End in Mind.

For some people (me) it made sense to start with Level 1 and work my way to Level 5 in the same path - until I opened Level 5 and saw I had to spend six months leading in my volunteer organization and complete various tasks. Now I look at Level 5 and plan backwards.

This past year I served as a Club President and  as an Area Director; two leadership roles that meet the Level 5 Leading in Your Volunteer Organization project. I was completing the requirement for a path I had in 2020 but didn't know I had to do it because I started at Level 1. This year I plan to do the same project, it is mandatory for a few - I didn't know that until recently either along with Leadership Development.

I will be the VPM of one of my three clubs; I will complete Leadership Development as I organize an open house during the Smedley Award membership drive in August and September. The mandatory Level 5 project is Manage Successful Events. Level 5 will now guide my planning through the rest of the path.

How will Level 4 projects connect to the open house? Tune in on Wednesday to find out.

Post 1: Ice Breaker to High Performance Leadership: Introduction

 Happy Toastmasters Day!

Are you stuck with pathways projects hanging over your head? So am I - or rather I was.  Why a blog? Why to help others avoid the pitfalls I have fallen into, of course; well, yes, but also to complete a Level 4 elective.

Over the course of the next few weeks I plan to complete various projects and unfinished paths. As I work, I will explain how Lori Logic - or backwards thinking and connecting to what I am doing - works for me.

If you are on your second or a subsequent path, let your ice breaker be your introduction to why and how you are completing this particular path, and what is your desired outcome?  These are just some ideas; to better plan you will want to start with the end in mind. Watch for my next post to understand my reasoning - also known as "Lori Logic".
